Chico's "Nice Guy Eddie's" Kiss Mural - July 3rd, 2010.

So just before we left home, I was keeping up with the latest East Village news, as I always do, over at EVGrieve and was reading about the former Nice Guy Eddie's restaurant closure and possible demise of the world famous Kiss Mural on the building's exterior.
Then, tragically, the worst possible outcome was confirmed: the classic, long-standing if somewhat misplaced ode to Gotham-born, formerly hottest band in the world, Kiss - was indeed going to come down. Or be repainted. Or something. It just wasn't going to be there anymore. I figured I could get one last look before it was gone. Turns out I was too late.
On the second day after our arrival in NYC, being the (somewhat regrettable at times but still) upstanding Kiss Army Soldier in good standing that I am, I made it a point to get down there to see what was happening to this beloved piece of artwork that is so vital to our culture. Our mission was carried out in the early afternoon on Monday, July 2nd. Upon our arrival at the scene, the Gorgeous One and I were entertained and amused to see Chico and his buds applying fresh paint in the form of a new and temporary Kiss Mural to the walls of the sidewalk shed that now surround the former Nice Guy Eddie's space. Chico's new Kiss Mural will come down, one would surmise, when whatever moves into the space actually moves in there.

The old mural was already painted over by the time we arrived and work was well under way on the new piece.

That's Gene! You know, that guy from that TV show!

And Paul!

And...uh...some dude who kinda looks like ACE!

And the guy who plays PETER!

Despite the heat and curious onlookers, Chico and crew just kept right on working...

We took a few more photos and were soon on our way to whatever it was we did next.

The following afternoon, on July 3rd, we found ourselves in the area once again for some reason or another, so we decided to have another look at the mural. Chico and crew were still at it but almost finished - just putting on some final, finishing touches.

People were stopping by and giving the artist much love for his new mural.

...more from our July 2012 NYC trip coming shortly!
